Fireplace Restoration and Pumice Liner Installation Surrey
Our client initially contacted us to undertake a CCTV inspection at their property as they were hoping to bring a blocked up fireplace back into use, ideally as an open fire.
As open fires require a larger flue diameter than a stove to operate efficiently (drawing well without smoking) the flue needed to be enlarged to accommodate the fire opening that the customer wanted.
The initial CCTV inspection confirmed the flue condition, dimensions, and suitability for lining. In this customer’s case they had an adjacent unused fireplace therefore it was possible to remove the brick withes throughout the flue height and knock the two flues into one. This created suitable flue dimensions to accommodate an appropriate flue liner for the desired open fire size.
The customer also wanted to sympathetically restore the fireplace with a new hearth and brickwork which would match the existing within the room. We sourced and supplied the brick slips which were a great match for the existing brickwork and a new slab stone hearth as specified by the customer.
Scaffolding was erected at the property ready for installation of the flue liner. The fireplace recess was opened up, knocking out the existing brickwork to create the specified recess size.
A pumice liner was chosen as the method for lining and this was installed in sections throughout the height of the flue surrounded with leca insulation.
The new fireplace opening was created with blockwork and a new lintel install. This was then made good and the recess and surrounding area finished with the chosen brick slips. The stone slab hearth was laid within the recess and projecting into the room as per building regulations ready for the open fire.
All debris was removed from site leaving clear and tidy.
This job was carried out in Surrey over a period of three weeks and resulted in a stunning new fireplace and stone hearth.
