If you live in the Oxford area and are looking for a reliable and professional company to fit a chimney cap or cowl, then at Billing Chimneys we are confident you’ll be satisfied with our services. There are many different kinds of caps and cowls and we will supply and fit the most appropriate.
Not every property needs a cowl but do consider one as they offer real benefits. If you don’t have a cowl on a live chimney, it’s likely that you’ve experienced problems with draught, either poor up-draught or downdraught, where smoke is drawn back into the room. A cowl will also protect the fabric of the chimney by stopping rain, sleet and snow falling into it causing damp problems. They also prevent birds nesting as it is often a build up of debris from nesting materials that causes blockages. A cowl will also help with the efficiency of the flue, by helping up-draught and preventing down draught caused by wind. For disused chimneys we strongly advise a cap to be fitted. As with a cowl, it will prevent the weather and wildlife having a detrimental effect and will keep the flue ventilated.
Cowls are traditionally made from terracotta, but they are also available in galvanised steel, aluminium, stainless steel and Cotswold stone. The type of chimney cowl or chimney cap installation required will depend upon the chimney and any specific problems and whether a commercial or domestic situation.
If you need a cowl or cap or need existing ones replacing, get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.
