Sweeping reduces the risk of fires and ash and soot blowback by keeping the flue clear of debris and soot build up.  A clear chimney will give a good draught, resulting in a cosy fire or efficient appliance and most importantly will expel waste gases. Once cleaned the flue can better be inspected and it is here when we can spot any potential issues, such as deterioration in the mortar or cracks.
